Proctocolectomy and ileostomy
Laparoscopic total colectomy with permanent ileostomy(bag)
This is a procedure performed for diseases of the entire colon and amounts to removing the whole colon.
This is mainly done for colitis, ischaemic bowel, and for high-risk cancer.
The patient can end up with a permanent bag(stoma) or in most young patients there is the good outcome by forming a pouch of the small bowel and joining it to the back passage.
